What is Tea
Tea is a beverage made by infusing or steeping the processed leaves of the tea plant in hot water. The word “Tea” is also used to refer to the leaves themselves. Afternoon Tea - is a mid to late-afternoon meal in the British Isles and associated countries. During the mealtime, tea (the drink) is served along with cake and biscuits.

The History of Tea.
An old legend in China tells of emperor Shen Nung, who was besides being a skilled ruler also a very creative scientist. He was the first who insisted that all drinking water was to be boiled (as a hygienic precaution) It has been said that during one of his travels, the Emperor Shen Nung and his entourage stopped to rest and whilst his servants busied themselves with boiling the water for the court to drink, dried leaves from a nearby bush fell into the boiling water and a brown liquid was infused into the water. Being a scientist, the Emperor drank some of the liquid and found it ‘pleasantly refreshing’. And this was how Tea was created

What happened to Pure Ceylon Tea?
The multinational brands built up consumer loyalty over the years by using only Ceylon tea. Once their brand names were established, they started moving to cheaper (commodity teas) and more recent origins of tea.

The consumers knew that Ceylon tea was the world’s finest tea and assumed that their favourite brand contained Ceylon Tea. Little did they know that Ceylon Tea has all but disappeared from the retail shelves in traditional Ceylon Tea markets.

Today, almost any tea brand in the U.K. and in the rest of the world, which you buy, is commodity tea. Also known as cheap tea. Cheap tea is full of dust and fluffs, which colour the water quickly when brewing the tea. This is the tea, which you can buy in supermarkets with branded names. These brands use large amounts of commodity in their blends, resulting in a low cost of production and a high profit in sales.

Tea lost its quality and its integrity. Because of consumer demand for cheap tea, more commodity teas are available giving the customer a below the quality tea with less flavour.

Swan Tea contains only High Grown Ceylon Tea and is packed in Sri Lanka exclusively. (ISO 9001:2000 "Quality Assured Firm"). Only the teas packed in Sri Lanka with 100% pure Ceylon tea carry symbol of Lion Logo.
